To become Vege or Not to be?

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0820/is_1999_April/ai_54232138/pg_3/?tag=content;col1

The above article kinda sums up the reasons why I want to stop eating meat and animal products, however as a Muslim I feel the need to explain further.
Muslims are encouraged to use animals as God intended them to be used ie for food and milk. the restrictions of something that has is allowed is not encouraged.
However I have concerns about the quality of Halal slaughtered meat and the living conditions of the animals.
I would rather be a vegetarian 95% of the year and eat only free range organic halal meat than to eat the stuff from the local halal butchers, the chickens are small and dont look like they were particularly healthy while living.

At the moment I would say the whole family are semi vegetarians we eat meat free 40% of the time, I cook quorn products and meat free meals a lot so it wouldn't be such a big jump to stop the meat altogether.
At the moment I could dowith loosing about 30 lbs and a vegetarian diet will help with this, as long as I dont fry all my vegetables in olive oil or live on a diet of pasta and chips!!
I might try it for the next month and I'll report back on how I feel :)

The res tof the family will still be having meat, I believe growing children need the iron and vitamin B12 in a meat diet.

  1. My dad doesn't eat any meat or chicken. Just vegetables and fish and he knocks up the tastiest meals. Good4 u if you can do it. I like Quorn products and Linda's lasagne helped me through a few pregnancies.
